Hey y'all,
I haven't been around posting for a while. Too bad that trend hasn't translated to my e-bay jones.
I've been working on something with my band that this board and VBMX in general have inspired and it's time to share it.
Here is our latest work....hope you like it.

Hey Brendan, I remember exchanging email with you a couple years ago when that song was just an idea. The song turned out great, and the video is really a breath of fresh air in the current world of fisheye lens performance videos. Very nice! Congratulations!

It's time to go lay some pipe
Or just watch me get nice
Ima school you on how to get high
Then go home tell your freinds how you bite all my style

Tired of life on the ground
Loose my soul when I'm down up your ramp I am Found

Thanks for telling me about this thread Raybeard. We were just talking about Brendan at York this weekend.
Brendan,
Thanks for sharing that awesome song with us.
Ryan's still playing his guitar getting quite good at it actually, thanks again for all your insight on purchasing a good guitar and the autographed pictures you sent. They are still framed in his room, he often asks how your doing and if there is any new music. Great to see you posting on the board as we have missed you.
Now we just need you to perform the new song at Rockford 06. Man that would be a trip.

I'm generally weary about petting the egos of rock stars, as I've met enough famous people to know that a large percentage are crazed egomaniacs...But I'll go out on a limb and assume that Bendan has his ego under control
This is great rock and roll, which is all well and good, but nothing rare. What I think makes this a particularly good song is that it captures that youthful feeling of being awestruck. Both lyrically and sonically, it transports me back to that ten year old blissful ignorance when BMX bikes and girls were things that were supernatural and beyond the realm of thorough understanding; elevated on a pedistal. We all lived though that experience, even if it was about something other than BMX bikes and girls, but despite that, I find that very little art seem able to communicate the feeling of youthful wonder. This song does, and I think that's what makes it more than just a good rock and roll song.

frazer,
Thanks for the kind words......The ego issue is a big deal in this business. I have gradually come to the conclusion that the music biz, like with other things, is occupied by a handful of people who actually have a skill and a hoard of tag-a-longs who do not. I have noticed that the peeps who can get things done never really have the ego issues. The wannabes on the other hand......whoooomama....look out!
I have been very lucky to have worked with a few people who genuinely care about music and have focused thier efforts according to that love. The dude who developed that video for example.....really cared about it and I think it shows. His name is Stu Mackay Smith. Along with my family, my brother Pete on the drums, sister Liz, Kathryn, Gerard on keys, Nick on bass, and Rob our manager we have been able to put something out there we are proud of......
And I'd like to thank the academy.... ooof! *Gets rrrrrrrrrun over by Harry Leary*
Seriously, many thanks to this board....It was a serious inspiration..... I was pretty down when I found VBMX.com but I'm feeling good now. Except I can't stop spending money on bikes....any advice for that?
much love,
brendan

I think the best part of the video/song it the part where they show the kid jumping (non animated). The music stops you hear the chain rattle and clank. That's vintage BMX.
Anyone going to see Wheatus on their up coming tour? I might make the Bound Brook NJ show (be there for work that week) or the DC show a few days later.

Ben....I'm going to look into getting the clean version avalible for streaming....there is one but I'm not sure where it is up.
Sorry about the Not For Kids thing.....I know this BMX life is indeed meant to be shared with the youngins....My BMX memories are of tough guys who cursed a lot and rode wheelies down the street with no front tire while smoking a cigarette.
There is a clean version in stores.
Thanks for all the support y'all....It means the most coming from this place.

see you on tour,

I absolutely LOVE it!
I am usually the guy that can pin down a bands influences in a snap of the fingers. When I can't, as is the case here, it is a huge compliment!
I agree that the story line paralells Rush's "Red Barchetta" in the "passion" context, but it has a different flavor all together, I'd say much more like "The Analog Kid" for Rush.
It has a more up-beat drive, like "Kickstart My Heart"...."Skydive naked from an aero-plane...kickstart my heart!", or the Scorpions' "Dynamite". But it also carries a hint of the B-52's. Maybe some "White Stripes" (very new school) in there too!
You can tell it is "New School" music in form. Being an "Old Schooler", when the song hits the " ... was only 10 years old....", I would have been cupping the pick, working the Kahler, and extending a finger, and reaching for some hammer-ons, big bends, and some vibrato! Just like Rush's "The Analog Kid"!... Instead if moves to a more modern ascending chromatic chord harmony, that builds it up to the Bridge... "New School style". Angus Young of AC/DC was the master purveyor of Chromatic scale overlays and " chromatic build-up's"... I like that a lot! I do miss the solo sections absent from the new school stuff though!
I am a ways off the mark yet, having only heard it 10 minutes ago, but when I get it, maybe I will share....lol
That should have made it onto "Joe Kid", if only on a "Bonus Disc"!!!!
As for this
quote:
tough guys who cursed a lot and rode wheelies down the street with no front tire
Vindicated by this photo...obviously expecting a snow fall....winter jacket on....clearly installing my 1 red and 1 blue tuff wheel I only used for riding in the snow....Why put both of them on? ...all you really need is one, right? You drove a nail home there! LOL!

The video is completely awesome, and the whole thing just plain rocks, with a refreshing sound!....Outstanding! I can't say enough good things about it!
Way to go bro!

While showing this video clip to my Father, We had to laugh at how one of the video clips resembled a long lost sponsorship photo! After some digging, I was able to produce the photo which shows how close to our hearts that this song and video hits to home!
I think there is some things in here that hit very near and dear to all of us. However, this screen shot hits me, and my friends, as no less than shockingly familiar, and almost scary !...

How's that for hitting something 25 years old really close to home!......lol
