Dumb question probably, but I have a 77 Racer 3 (I think there is a pic on one of the 28 pages). Anyway, what is the seat tube diameter? I assumed 7/8 but a 7/8 post seems real tight. Just wanted to make sure that was just due to an overtightened seat clamp at some point and not me trying to force a 7/8 post into a 13/16 tube.

my 7/8 seat post was tight too. i put the post in the freezer for a few hours and then installed it.

7/8" is correct. I would have the LBS run a reamer in the tube to clean out old debris.

You are right on. As a former DG dealer, I've had to ream out a lot of frames. Many probs were caused by poor welds at the top tube or rear stays.

I'd have tried the seat post in the freezer trick, but there is no space given I'm straightening my tuff wheels in there at this time.

Thanks everyone. It will go, it's just pretty tight. I have a post being polished right now that should take a hair off the diameter, which should work out. If not I'll try the freezer trick or ream it our, just wanted to make sure I was starting with the right stuff.

well you could always come to Phoenix. i work in a 1 million square ft warehouse and our freezer is 105 ft tall and 460 ft long and 6 below zero

How do I tell early DG forks from later models? I just bought a set that came off a '77 mongoose. They have thin legs, no brake hole, and the solid blades.

They are chrome but did the early forks come in yellow as well?

They came yellow or chrome. Thin legs sounds like 1977. The earliest forks did not have the DG stamped in the drop out.

My Steve Skibel Replica should be done by the end of November with any luck....then I will post pics into this thread.

hello everyone. just wanted to let you know i am bringing my DG to the bike show this Friday November 21st at 8pm. Kore bikes 1126 n scottsdale rd. tempe az 85281 480-966-5673. Im not trying to brag...ok maybe a little but at the last show an employee of S&M said he had just came back from Vegas and saw some show quality DG`s there then he saw my bike and said it was the cleanest DG he has every seen and it belongs in a museum. so if you can please come out i would love to meet and talk to some of you DG fans out there.

I've almost finished compiling all the parts for my ZF build. I've only had this frame & fork for five or six years, so I'm way ahead of schedule. Last night I was wondering about the headset. I know the Super Pros had a "ten speed" headset, so I was wondering if my ZF would be similar. Then I coincidentally stumbled across a Campy headset that I had forgotten about and thought it all very serindipidous until I slid the cups into my headtube and found them swimming in there. I measured the the headtube and it was about 1 1/8" from inner edge to inner edge. I have to be honest, I have only measured a couple of headtubes and I don't remember any of my bmx'ers being that large. What size of headset does this bugger want and who makes 'em? Is a typical BMX 1" headtube bigger than the standard road bike 1" headtube? For some reason I thought it was the other way around.
