You have to use either a Unicanitor (an NOS one on eBay now or an Ideal 2000. Bottema used the same seat for ever on his bikes and it was an Ideal 2000.
EMPI
Ben, isnt unicanitor a cinelli seat?

Yes! I see Johnny Omas is at it again with another great thread. Well I just so happen to have a couple special items that Bottema gave me quite a few years ago. Here's one of his actual DG helmets worn by Jeff himself.

This stuff is the real deal, no repops on these!

and Jersey!

and shirt!

and a couple of Jeff's actual # plates. The first is his California Cup #4 plate that can be seen on Jeff's DG in the BMXA that covers the California Cup race.

and maybe the coolest of all, #25!

Kind of interesting story to this # plate, it has Jeff's name at the top of the plate. O.K., nothing strange there, but if you look at the Boy's Life issue that has JU-6 on the cover from his FMF days, you will see a great shot of a Pro moto coming right at you. If you look at the # plate on Tinker's bike, you can clearly see that it is this exact plate placed over another # plate. It even has the little Jeff Bottema name sticker at the top and the nitch is missing on the right hand side. Kind of cool to know that Jeff and Tinker both used this # plate, and that it's this very plate in the mag.

Here is a little somethig I picked up today - Now I just need to complete a couple of these DG's and I will have a helmet to match. Are these fairly easy to find?
EMPI
very cool helmet!!!!! what kind of mouthguard is that?
R. Serafin
That looks like a JT Iron Jaw.
Fergie
Iron Jaw sounds right..but not a JT product.
JT had the popular SuperCross mouthguard, and before that, the Sinasalo rounded one with the piping around the edging.- that one was the ttt-rick lookin' one..

Question: What was the connection with the Sinasalo/JT co-operative?
Kevin Harlow

A: Heikki Mikkola?
BenOr
The Flying FInn rocked! I met my wife in 1993 in Helsinki. He was still known by everyone!
TeamRob
The guy told me it was an Iron Jaw Mouth Gaurd? I honestly don't know - looks cool and the first helmet I have EVER bought for any reason. The guy told me he bought it brand new for his daughter in 1977 fromDG as it sits. Great shape because chicks usually are not as rough - on a bike anyway....
TeamRob
Here is a side view of the Gaurd. In the DG book (page included on here) this is the Premier model with optional Mouthgaurd.
This guy was very into motorcycles and had lots of helmets. He sold a Maico that he thought was just old crap for $3500??

Fergie
Kevin and Ben,

If you guys get RacerX, there was a real good article on Heikki Mikkola earlier this year or late last year. Kinda funny..he didn't even know who McGrath was..LOL.

I never knew the connection to Sinasalo..just wondering. Think it was Heikki that was the connection??

Not sure. But I remember JT distributing Mikkola gloves and Sinisalo products. And of course, Heikki Mikkola and Sinisalo were synonamous.

Kevin
BenOr
The helmet looks like a Premier, but the decal is wrong. red racer.com sells the right helmet decal to make your helmet spot on.

My early JT pants and gloves were branded JT but inside said Sinasalo. Likely JT imported from Sinasalo then took it over later on.

Who's in this pic from left to right?

Here's a few hints..........

1) Someone in this pic got multiple #1 Pro Cruiser titles. He also designed a few BMX products too.
2) Three of these guys lived in San Diego County in 1980.
3) One guy had the first canti mounts on a BMX bike about 3 years before this pic was taken.
4) One guy was pretty dang fast on a Huffy.
5) One guy became "fine as f&*%" after he dumped the glasses and fixed his hair. LOL!

Here's some of Byron Friday at Rancho in 1980

1) Shawn Texas #4, Byron Friday #3, Taylor Troney, and Eric "Koho" Jones.
Exiting the third turn at Rancho 1980. Byron used to always zap Texas at this part of the track all the time!

Same race day in a different order. Byron Friday 1st, Eric "Koho" Jones 2nd, Taylor Troney 3rd, Shawn Texas 4th, "Insane" Dwayne Williams 5th.

Byron Friday #250, Deane Hamilton #33s, either Pete Rajectnek (Ray-nek) or Coy Hudson in third, and Mike Aguilar in fourth. Exiting the third turn at Rancho 1980.

Does anyone out there on the internets know how to get in touch with Ed Smith?? (Green Duck)

If so, is he interested in selling the rights to DG BMX?

Thanks,
Kevin
BenOr
I googled and nothing I could find related to Green Duck and Ed SMith. There are a bunch of guys in san Diego named Ed Smith. There are also a bunch of Green Duck companies...

If they have gussets, we will buy...

I know nothing about DG. Sorry bro.

Buy the way Kevin, where do race BMX locally and on what days? I'm thinking about going up to L.A. or Orange County to try some other tracks. I saw you at Lakeside a few years ago.
