the article has to be from like '79 or early '80 BMXA.

My dad made that gate! From those plans in that BMXA mag. We had great fun with it - I've shown my kids that article reprinted and they are begging me to build another one

that same gate helped Amtrack Charles Townsend to his #1 pro plate (yep Im taking full credit for that)

My dad also helped me make that gate. It sat on my practice track in the abandoned Pennsylvania cornfield, across the street from my house, for 10 years. After i moved to California some of the locals kept that practice track up for another 7 years or so after i left PA.

When i went home to visit my old neighboorhood i was suprised to see it and the track still being used. Now the cornfield is homes

My gate had an Axe handle though. I also used grip tape instead of the wire mesh.

After I posted I realized you may have meant a different article....
JohnnyJohnson OMAS DirtSlinger
It's probably the article on Torker's Mike Aguliera "Anatomy of a holeshot." It was only one page long. Came out around 1979 or 1980. It was a motor-drive sequence of pictures. Each picture had the technique written with it.

There was another artcle on starts with illustrations of Brent Patterson. They talk about Brent and Richie Anderson's technique on starts.

Both were great.

you're right on the money johnny! i can't even recall how many people i smoked out of the gate with that technique.i wish someone would post it.hand held starts were so inconsistant back then.
