hi - i recently bought a tahoe frame from darren chan, needing resto. i like the gussett bike frames. i was told this was maybe a cw offshoot ? maybe vdc, similar to a nat.pro ? would love some background info., definitely need some correct forks, and stickers for the frame resto. if anyone is knowledgable on these please reply !! thanks, vettefan. (i see in the museum that greg hanna had restored one - if he's available let me know how to reach him. )

"king of pipeline" knows a little about Tahoe, but not much. I know he has a Tahoe F&F. If he sends me the pics I'll post them for him, in the meantime I'll direct him to this thread.

The 20" Tahoe frame and fork were made by either Trackmaster or VDC. The Tahoe 24" frame and fork were made by VDC.

The 20" frame is basically a Robinson with the tube gusset in place of the double plate gusset and the fork is exactly like the Robinson under the leg dropout fork.
The 24" frame and fork are identical to CW except the frame has the tube gusset.
I think the Company started in the Northwest and wound up in Minnesota. A couple other guys here know more about the history behind Tahoe than I do.

If they're as rare as you say, I'm sure a lot of people would love to see the frame and fork dropouts. I know I've never seen them before.

as greg said, they are a robinson with a tube instead of a gusset. you found that in mn. because the team was based out of the cities. john sandberg could tell it all, but haven't seen him post in a long time. i saw a cruiser in indiana at hobart in '02. think the team was based out of there after jack sold it.

I had heard that the original owner was out of Mn. In the early 80's they had a pretty good team the Taylor's ran the team, not sure if they owned the company. The Tahoe team was always at the Ft. Wayne Indoor races.

I remember two riders on the team JT Taylor and Alana Hancock. I have an image of other riders on the team I just can't remember their names. The uniforms were white and green Zeronine Leathers and a white cloth jersey with Green mountains in the background. I travelled with the Taylors one time from the Memphis, Tn. race to the Spring Break Florida races. They were a nice family and the team was fun to hang out with.

Sorry I can't help you with the bike at all.

They're was a guy from In. named Todd something that was racing 1-3/8 wheels, even thought he was 16 and way too big for them. My friend still has his Tahoe 20...

Indeed the original 20-in. Tahoe frames were identical to Robinson, with a tube gusset by the headtube. Under the original ownership (Jack Doherty), I'm 99% certain they were built by Trackmaster.

I never knew that VDC built the 24-in. Tahoe f/f, but that works. Billy Griggs delivered to me (at an ABA National in California) the original 24 bike and parts. That was his CW days, and he gathered all the same parts that he used on his cruiser. I assembled it in the hotel the night before the race. When I beat him in a heat race the next day he got mad and claimed I cut him off. Hell, I probably did.

The original Tahoe team evolved from Team Tremco (co-sponsored with Robinson frames/forks), then Team Rondo (Robinson, then Hutch co-sponsorship), and finally Tahoe.

There were a bunch of little guys on the team, Wes Searer was one of them. All the Mid-80's Tahoe factory riders, that I can remember, were out of Indiana and I always thought JT's parents owned Tahoe.

Give Brad Hallin an email at ABA. His dad was the original owner of Tahoe. I think he still has some of the decal kits and other goodies.

An old friend of mine used to race for Tahoe back in the early 80s and he still has both a 20 and a 24 in his parents' shed. Maybe I will try and get ahold of him to see what he wants for them.

There should have been a Dave Christensen signature model or at least limited edition sticker set!
