So Saturday night my wife and I are on our way to a party.
On our way we stop at a TGI Fridays in Hilliard Ohio.
Since we just wanted an appetizer we decide to just to sit in the bar.
On the wall in the bar is a black Kuwahara with black Torker forks all decked out with nice gold accessories.(Race inc bars, maxy cross cranks, etc.)
I go over to look at it and I notice that they mounted it to the wall with 3" drywall screws...... right thru the rims!!!!!!
Some people have no sense
This put me into a turmoil needing to know what kind of rims had been ruined.
I was unable to make a final determination because my wife came over and told me to get off the table, there were people waiting to sit down.
My thought was they were Ukais but am not 100% sure.
Obviously who ever hung the bike on the wall was not an old school bmxer.

Normally they drill through the pedal hole in the crank and just use hooks for the rest. No damage. I feel your pain brother.

Will they sell any of their bikes??
pk ripped
No.

I said it before and i'll say it again::::
F#@% TGI Fridays!!! Murderers!!!

By the way, the bartender did say that they get a lot of comments on the bike.
I wanted to ask him why some dipstick would run screws thru the rims, but then I decided not too.
The damage was already done.

My local TGI's has a GT Interceptor. They used long drywall screws and washers to go between the spokes and hang it, plus the missing pedal on the wall side used the same thing. Overall a pretty crappy bike. It even had a kick stand on it.

Just came back from my TGIF's in Scranton.

Mongoose Expert. May be one of the last years for the looptail (don't know what year that would be)? Old school stickers (stars going down fork legs). Old school Mongoose sprocket, but mid school looking Mongoose round platform pedals. Bars looked like GT freestyle bars, but had Mongoose sticker on it. SR Stem. Did not have Pro Class rims. Hinged seatpost clamp, lay back seat post, and black pillow top seat. Bulldog brakes. Orange chain and orange radcaps. Everytime I'd think early 80's, I'd see something that said late 80's.

Mounting was very nice and not damaging. The Powell and Peratha Bones Brigade board next to it, however, did not fair as well.

Fridays- Collierville, TN.
It had S&M on the head tube. I don't know diddly about them. The down tube said HOLMES. It did have Redline single pinch cranks, some crazy looking rims w/flame like designs on them. I guess it's a jumping bike because the dropouts were very thick. The funny thing is, the forks were backwards.
Mounting was good, using wire tied around the tubing to screws on the wall.

dude those were odessey t-1000's i would try to snag that bike. offer hima trade for another bike. and let me know what the conditon the rims are in if you get the bike HINT HINT HINT HINT !!!!!!!!!!!!

rims looked mint. I took a picture, but it's with a disposable camera. I can scan it when they are developed.
My wife thought I was retarded when they asked: Smoking or non? I replied; I want to sit with the bike.

She said, "smoking or non?"

I said, "This may be a strange question, but do you have a bike hanging on the wall?"

She rolled her eyes and told the waitress, "Table 11."

I must not have been the first to ask.

A few TGIF have gone into liquidation and the auctioneers just want cash so you can get the stuff off the walls for a very cheap. Last one I saw included a full GT frasme, fork and handlebars (with Santa Ana decals) go for $40. Do your research looking for liquidators of restraurant franchises. would love to hear if others have discovered this approach

The TGIF in Hilliard that was the location of the Original post, has closed it's doors in the last few weeks. sad.gif

I have seen a few auction sites, but all the TGIF's were months old.

Here's a GT from my local TGIF when we went last week. I took the pic w/ my camera phone and I was going to take a couple of more better ones but the couple sitting right under the bike were giving me the dirtiest looks...LOL!!!

I dont see a problem with mounting the bike by using drywall screws. I mean that is of course they are going into studs.

If its an area on brick I like tapcons or simple lags with sheilds.

If the wall is hollow and then a nice 3/8 toggle bolt should hold up well.

Also, I would use a fender washer. Helps distribute the pressure.

A few years back when TGI Fridays was remodeling all their restaurants, one of their buyer's jobs was to get a bunch of 80's BMX Bikes. People were asking, "Who's this new guy buying all these bikes left and right?"

They were on here and bought lots of stuff off eBay too. Seemed to have a pretty big budget. Once everyone realized what was going on and that it was TGI Friday's, much drama and discussion ensued. Some nice stuff went their way. People tracked what they were buying and debated the impact of all these bikes ending up screwed to a chain restaurant's wall.

If I remember correctly, the buyer was open about what he was doing and would comment from time to time on some of the Vintage threads about it.

Huntcart was their screen name, and ebay name too.

It was a much debated topic, for sure.

Just another day in paradise!

I bought a mongoose motomag from Huntcart back then. Paid $135. I guess that was one that didn't end up on a wall. I remember it because it was sent to me using a Greyhound bus. shipped it completely built for around $30 and I rode it out of the terminal. That was the weird part for me.
Maybe it weighed too much to hang up. It does tip the scales near 45+ pounds.

True, you cant do squat without em.........
