If you had big talent on the little bike how could you just go onto something different if your peers thought you to be in your prime?
Or the equivalent would be nfl/nba draft bust.

Well regardless what is the biggest talent you've seen step away from bmx or underachieve as a pro?

A kid whose parents ran the track in my area, fastest most naturally gifted person I have ever seen on a bike. I remember at the age of 15 we went to a big race in spokane and there was a pro-am open, he smoked every pro there, every moto effortlessly, he even did a 360 over the last jump his dad jumped him about it and I remember him saying he should show more respect to those pros, I laughed about it, but I think that was the beggining of the end, he just seemed like nothing he could do please anyone and he wasnt racing for himself anymore, drugs and alchohol soon took over and that was the last of him.

I can think of a few. Parents usually jacked it all up. I wont mention names just because but one kid that went away from BMX racing and went onto great things was Chase Hawk. He was an amazing racer back in the day. Divorced parents really played a role into him getting to the track but he could always get to the trails.

Mike Luna, derrick Garcia, there's many names that come to mind. But those two guys just dropped off the face of the earth.

Mark Driscoll. Rode for Schwinn BITD. Got big money to ride for Huffy with John Piant and Matt Harris.

Never did much after that. Life has not treated him well.

He was super fast for a little while.

Top ams seem to run about a 1:10 ratio of success in AA. Top ams on The Firm in the 90s probably ran about 1:4.

The Southeast has had plenty come and go in the last 10 to 15 years - Benny Wright, Justin Joy, Warren Lee, Matt Beatty, Spanky, CJ, probably a few non-speakers I'm forgetting about.
