Chrome flaking off Alum rims, take it off

Any tips for getting it all off? Got all the loose pieces off but some still seems bonded well. So now I have a splotchy patches of chrome. Used a wire brush to get the loose stuff, and it gives you the worst metal splinters.

I don't know of a good home remedy. I think your best bet may be to take it to a chrome shop and have them do a chemical dip to strip the chrome.
