I bought a used bike last year and loved it from the first ride I took on it. Sadly the 7 year old Staats Chromoly frame is starting to show it's age (the dropouts are separating) so it's time for a new frame. I've tried a few others recently and they all felt weird. Just my luck someone had a lightly used Staats aluminum frame with a brand new powder coat on it for cheap. Ordered the matching flame sticker kit from Staats and picked up the frame last Friday.

I brought the frames into my office this morning to weigh them and the old one came in at a hefty 4.6 pounds. (It is from 2002 so no surprise there) The new frame, 3.4 pounds! Can't wait to feel the weight savings. The new frame is the same geometry but has a slightly shorter rear end. The size should stay the same though as I had the backend slammed all the way on the old frame and this one will be somewhere in the middle of the dropout.

The whole bike weighed in at 23.4 pounds before and I figure with the new frame and eventually the fork, seatpost, and seat I can get it down to around 21.5 - 22 pounds. (Fork is an old SX that weighs 2 pounds, seatpost is a cheap Promax, and the seat is one I stole from my son's Eastern park bike)

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas wanting to get it all together and ride it.

Knight chain tensioners came in the mail today from Empire BMX. Bike is back together with the new frame and feels niiice. Shortened up the rear end so it will feel a little different there in addition to the weight savings. Also ordered a new Supercross Pro LT fork that will take another half pound off the overall weight. Hoping to get the bike in around 21.5 pounds when I'm all done with it.
