Under Promise and Over Deliver, never the other way around if at all possible. Be mindful of what you do promise.

I agree with the other posts and I would also say that it is best to start small. Don't pick up a ton of riders! Pick up a few good ones and take care of them!

That is a good question. If you don't mind let me add to it. How many racers go on a team sheat? Local (State) races and/or National races... I'm thinking trophy team. And how many boys vs. girls need to be on the sheats?

I'm in NW Indiana what tracks do you ride? My kids just started and we ride at Freedom in Lowell. They want to check out the other tracks soon.

I was going to say that there a a bunch of folks out there that want to help you. Look for grassroots opportunities from all the big players. I started a small team this year with a focus on coaching, training, fun, racing hard and having fun. We emphasize helping one another and riding clean and safe. My kids are doing great and getting faster all the time. While we don't emphasize results we are doing great on the local and state level. It's a lot of work, but we've had a great time this year and we look forward to many more.

I started Liberty Racing in 2006 and have had a blast being the TM ever since. I will agree with the others...IT IS A LOT OF WORK! We run as a trophy team. Again, I agree with Stuart...UNDER promise and OVER deliver. Watch out for those that are just out for "FREE" stuff. Yes, they are out there and will take full advantage of it if given the chance. Try different things with your team to keep it interesting. I just started a new report card challenge to all of my riders (including college)...for every "A" one of my riders receives on his/her report card, they will get 1 "single" point race paid for by me. I know it does not seem like much...but it's something.

Good luck with your new team and remember to check out the various grassroots opportunities (GHP...GHP...GHP) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sun_bespectacled.gif)
