redline info needed please, proline II Options

I've just bought this nos redline proline II frame.
What year is it? 81-82?
What is the correct fork for this frame, I know there are 2 kinds of proline forks.
Serial under BB 489456

Those decals are poor repro's, so you cant user them to ID the frame. The serial number, although hard to decode, would suggest that its an 81 / 82 PL-20.

The forks come up on Ebay fairly often. There are 2 types - one with dropouts like early Patterson forks, and the other which is the standard PL-20 forks. If its early Redline, tapered 5 inch forks, it will be for the PL-20.

it has the gusset at the seatstays. that puts it between late '82 and very early '84 year-models. japanese.

those decals are orginal and says proline II.
they are yellowed by the years ;-:
and yes need new decals.

the Proline became the Proline II which then became the PL-20. all progressions of the "same" frame idea.

"Carrera" was the name of the complete bike w/ 3-pc cranks. there was no "Carrera" frame.

Mr. Coaster is correct (as always!) - Proline II identifies the frameset, which was used to make the Carrera bike.

Therefore there is no such thing as a frameset named "Carrera".

However, the Proline II framesets used for Carrera bikes had one unique difference from other Proline II framesets - the rear dropouts were to be brazed, not welded. Whether this held true in all actual production of all Carrera bikes, I can't say. But that's what Redline specified and produced at least for a few.

So - following this proline --> proline II ---> PL20 progression - would it not be true that the gusset between the rear seatstays is something that came out on the PL20, therefore making it an 83 onwards feature? This would make JJR's ftrame a PL20 rather than a Proline II, as his decals suggest.

are the later tapered forks the same like for my frame?
maybe i can use a later tapered fork, with shorter steeringtube and make it longer?
anyway, I hope to find such fork.......so come on guys.....help me out!

that little gusset seems to be more indicative of what factory actually built the frame, rather than model. frames with and without the gusset were produced at the same time (different style serial #s, too). no one has been able to figure out exactly what the deals was (including in my talks with Redline) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

frames with that gusset ran from late-ish 1982 thru early 1984. yes, some did come decaled as JJR's is.

also remember... some frames during that whole period had that gusset, some did not.
