On the way out to Perris from Salt Lake we stayed at the South Coast Casino to try to get a feel for the place. We ere there for only about nine hours over Thursday night. It is a really nice place and one that I think will make for a good venue IF we can keep in the hotels good graces.

One neat thing is that they hand out a little coupon book when you check in that has a bunch of free drinks, food, and entertainment stuff in it. I did not have time to use any coupons, but will save it for July.

Rooms: Very nice. Large with a big bathroom and nice 42" plasma TV in the main room. Everything is new and clean.

Hotel: Spacious and well laid out. Everything seemed easy to get to and while there were a lot of people there the hotel did not feel too crowded.

Arena: Likely the nicest one we will have raced. The seating looked like Reno. The arena floor looked a tad smaller than Reno and rounded at the corners. I would expect a U in U configuration because of the way that the entrance and exit were configured. What struck me as nice was how good the lighting was. The arena is attached to the hotel.

I have heard that the hotel is really trying to give the ABA a shot at this nice facility. Apparently, our reputation preceeds us...well, that or the reputation of a few bad apples does. Either way, they are not giving us much rope to hang ourselves. Bikes will not be allowed on the upper deck where the seating and vendors will be. Nor will they be allowed in the hotel. I hear that they may loosen the reigns a little next year if we can keep the bad apples under control.

This should be a premier event. We are definitely looking forward to it.

it's Vegas. the kids, well the immature ones, and knuckleheads will show up and try to destroy it. some out of boredom, some out of stupidity, some because they think that stuff is funny and some simply because they can'y handle their liquor. i just hope that Team Managers and Parents keep their riders in check over that weekend so that we are allowed back year after year. we shall see!

it is a great property and has a lots for people to do including bowling, movies, drinking, gambling, sleeping, resting, playing and is only a few miles south of a huge outlet mall. A few more miles and you're at the Strip.

Those whoe are going to gamble, get a player card. These uys give good comps and all the revenues tied to the race increase the chances we can a). go back next year or B). won't get kicked out early.

I live here and I'm getting a room. It is a quality place with great prices on everything.

Great post CurtisN - thanks.

Good idea on the player card Mike.

One thing I wanted to add (and it goes with increasing the revenues/chance of success) this will be one national worth bringing family or friends. You know how hard it is to take family to most nationals. It long, tiring, hot/cold/rainy/windy, etc. Well, this is one that anyone can go to, watch the races they are interested in, then go PLAY!

As of now we have two grandparents, two of my wifes cousins, and whole pile of kid-cousins coming. There may be more as we get closer. They all get to see this thing called BMX my kids do with all of the excitement of a national, but without all of the headaches.

Just as an FYI, I heard that the race attendees have booked THREE TIMES the rooms the ABA told them they would. This is a very good sign.
