As I slowly re-build up my old F.M.F. 20" trusty steed,I cant help but remember some of the great times we had racing b.m.x. in the mid-1970's around the San Fernando Valley. At the height of racing we would load up the powder blue Datsun 510 wagon 3-times a week to race at the Encino Velodrome,Van Nuys youth center and either Randall Ranch or Yarnell for downhill 'Sunday'.!.My dad fabricated a rack on top of the old Datsun so my brother, myself and at least two neighbor kids could all get their gear, and bikes aboard..Many nites I would have Perry Kramer ahead of us ,lining up,with Byron Friday across from me and John George getting the best 'gate' position....Many nites after racing we would go for desert with Ernie Alaxander and crew with 'fresh'trophies on the counter....Good memories, and great times..!

Outstanding memories! Hopefully most everyone here has similar ones. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But yours are the best because they are yours. Sounds like you made good ones.

Perhaps we crossed paths or lined up on the same gate. By any chance do you have any pictures?

Here are a couple to stir the memories. First one is the Velodrome.

Below is the 2nd turn at Yarnell.

This last picture is Randal Ranch looking down over the starting gate. Photo courtesy of Cash Matthews.

It would be cool if you have some pictures to add.

Oh and by the way, I am Dennis Dain, the Red Baron.

Dennis, did you do this subconsciously or were you being clever?

"gear, and bikes aboard..Many nites I would have Perry Kramer ahead of us ,lining up,with Byron"

Who's next to you?

Funny Randy! I would love to say that I planned that but I actually only have 2 pictures from that track. (the Veledrome) The other pic is not a racing shot, just some of us hanging around the banked cycling track. That is PK in front of me but that is not Byron next to me. That is a guy named Mike Torres. (he is a cousin of Greg Hills wife, Liz Torres (Hill)

I was actually just trying to post pics of the tracks that were mentioned in the original post.
