John Spangler is the "Spanky" that was at Wordward the summer of 85. I spoke with him over the weekend and he confirmed this race was in 1985. He and Baumert attended this race in the Woodward van along with Mike Miranda, I presume Miranda didn't race.

Neal reminded me of "Neal's corner" in the Berm Busters where he would give advice on how to race... those were the days..

Anywho, here we are getting ready to race...

I believe it is Spanky... I remember at the indoor track in Ho Co, he landed on me over the dbls and I was taken for my first ambulance ride ... he was so upset, he didn't race that day..

Mre I believe we raced in Cruiser class together when I came back into the sport around 94. I drove down from NJ to a few of the Maryland tracks and we raced each other at a few nationals in the PA area around that time.

Kazman, are you referring to you and I racing in crusier? Or you and Spanky? I never raced crusier as a kid.. only now as an old man. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I raced between 82 and about 92 - then took off the last 16 years up until this year... sorry.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

No as an adult, I never raced cruiser as a kid either and Spanky was a year or two younger than me.

I never raced either Rockville or Howard County. But I did race MD back in 80/81 on occasion. I also raced Columbia alot in 88-90 era. I got two newspaper articles from the Columbia paper. One covered the Race for Life and one a regular race on May 7. Probably 89 but could be 90.

17 X was won by my good friend Dave Kapigian at the RFL. 2nd went to another NJ rider, the legend Lenny Norfleet. Its possible he went with me and Dave. 3rd was Steve Clairborne. I won Cruiser with Bill Blake getting second and Jay Rimmel Sr getting third.

At the other race 17 X was won by Michael Hill, 2nd went Richie Matthews and 3rd went to Kevin Turner. Kapigian snaked in for 4th. PA rider and funnyman Tom Donahue got 6th. In cruiser Richie Matthews won, I took second and Bill Blake 3rd.
Team Trophy went 1. Rockville BMX 2. Phelps Main Connection and 3. Waldorf Cycles.

If you think you may have raced Columbia that year and want me to look up your name let me know. I have no scanner sorry.

Derek and Jay Reese
here is a old shot from Lums Pond Delaware at the NBL Championship early in 1984.
this was the first year I raced it and raced Jay Reese who was the Del#1 then and Jarrett Justice of CW.
the next 3 years I got the Del. #1
Jay was a fast racer for sure and Jarrett Justice was also super quick!
