I have an old NOS Lime Green Streetbeat I have been meaning to build. And a General Bike Co. 1986 fork powder coated by C2 labs to match. Are Skyways too played out? I think I have some fresh ideas for it though. Do all the builds need NOS parts from the 80-91 time period to qualify or be considered? I have just about had it after scavenger hunting for the better part of 10 years. My man PorkChop pretty much has all the main components I need.
Although Skyway's freestyle bikes don't fetch the kind of bucks as their race bikes, they're an important part of freestyle's heritage - I say build it up!
There are no rules about components being from a certain era or OG vs. repop, etc. Just the frame has to be manufactured between 1980 and 1991. I've seen plenty of bikes tastefully built up with repop that steal the show versus an all OG bike (and I've also of course seen the opposite be true). Build what makes you happy - don't build to win. Winning a build off is just icing on the cake - that's why the BIG prize in this build off is being randomly given to a participant, regardless of the "level" of their bike. (IMG:
