GT Performer with brake bosses on the outside? Options

I want to inquire about this bike, but I have NO CLUE of what it is. I figured it is a Performer, and even after scouring the internet I still can't guess the year. It has strange v-brake/990 bosses on the outside of the frame - and I can't tell if somebody brazed them on. HELP! - Dion

that's not a GT.

is that a "GT" stamp on it, though? counterfeit copy. the downtube bend, dropouts, platform... all different from GT. also, it appears to have a kickstand bracket.

may have come from one of the asian frame builders that GT uses. what's the serial #?

I have no clue - it was on CL and I was thinking about going for it if it was some kind of rare bird. But if it's counterfeit, I'm guessing it's not worth anything. I just found it so weird with those bosses sticking out there like that.

There are all kinds of weird things about that bike -- the downtube bend, the v-brake mounts, the top tube platform, the GT stamp. I can't explain it.

As a rule of thumb, anything V-brake or cantilever on a freestyle bike that looks older than it is, is typically made after mid-90s and even more so, cheap copy of its ancestor.
Then again decent mid to late 90s racing bikes ended up having cantilever & v-brakes all over them but that's another story.
