Hey Guys,

Here are some pics of my restored CW Phaze 1. I'm the original owner, purchased at Bicycle World in Howell, NJ back around 1983. Serial number is CZ-09. Mostly original parts (cranks, pedals, bars, neck, seat, etc.) but had to go with some new school stuff (rims & tires) until I find what I really want. Let me know what you think.

wow - that thing is in the best condition - almost looks NOS!

A couple of small tweaks - rims/tyres/chainring back to era correct and it's smokin!

Great build, keep hunting to replace the new parts with era correct, in the meantime ride it!

Thanks for all of the positive comments. I couldn't wait to any longer to ride it, so I went with the new school parts while I hunted down the right stuff. BITD it had chrome Araya rims, spokes, nipples, Tuf Neck chainring, Comp III skinwalls, full CW pads and a Zeronine plate. As you guys know, the hunt for NOS parts can be time consuming.

Not to get off topic, but it doesn't seem like there are any manufacturers left with imagination. Everything new school looks exactly the same. We old schoolers had a bevy of choices like Torkers, Profiles, Skyways, Slingshots....and of course my favorite CW. Bikes that were worth a second look. There's nothing new that excites me. The only thing that is remotely unique now is the Intense Podium. Everthing seems to be about weight and geometry. BITD is was about being original....and COOL. Just my two cents.

Nice build. I agree with you about the new bikes and for that matter, skateboards. Can't really tell one from the other. You look online or in a catalog and see pages and pages of frames that all look the same. This is true for bike parts as well. You can show me 5 different handlebars (new school) and couldn't tell one from the other. On the other hand, show me a pair of Race, Inc, Redline V-bars, Thruster bars or Cook Bros bars and the difference between them is clear.

I also agree that the Intense Podium as well as the Specialized Fatboy and Haro Monocque (can't spell it) is the only new school frames that are distinctive. While I'm ranting, I'd like to question why BMX Plus magazine dedicates 95% of its magazine to street riding and puts the racing info in the back. When is the last time you saw a products page or test of any race bikes/parts in that magazine? I'm from NY so I understand that racing is not as prevelant as it is in California and other warm states, but why would a national magazine give racing such little exposure?
