I paid 10 bucks to race today, and I have zero complaints. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Spent an xtra 5 bucks for a trophy ( 2nd place today) . I love my local track and realize it costs money to keep it open. QUOTE I don't expect you will find any track out there "over charging" for the sake of over charging. Tracks have real costs and overhead involved to run races...rent, trophies, electricity, water, tools, etc. etc. Track rebuilds cost money, fencing costs money, even good quality dirt costs money. Not every track out there can wait 5 or 6 years to get stuff paid off because they are running $5 races Dave has said it best.

32 riders raced free of charge at Fountain City BMX today. It was a beautiful thing.

Not one local track in NJ would be able to stay open if it were not either on public land like HC and EHT or had a beneficiary like the Gleasons leasing a million dollars worth of prime central NJ real estate for $1.00 dollar a year. If the tracks were real businesses they would have gone bankrupt years ago. Racing is WAY cheaper than it should be..BUT when you think about the reality of them being on land that is super cheap or costs nothing...and the tracks should, if they were smart be running as 501c3's that can accept grants, donations, etc. Well, then you are sorta right there money wise, 10 to 15 smackers for a race.
Skateparks exist as real businesses paying rent, utilities, insurance, etc., most tracks exist outside that reality, at least in NJ. But then you have a big customer base at skateparks, BMX racing tracks are solely designed for one type of activity.
I'd say as racing is right now, no one is getting overcharged.

Now that I've been doing this for a year and after visiting many different tracks in the mid-west and mid-south I was kind of shocked that our locals were still $5(and had been for decades), and almost as fast as I had the thought, they went up. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) When I sign up there's usually 3-5 entree fees any given race-day because all 3 of us have class/cruiser memberships, it just depends on what we're doing that day. I went to a $12/race track a couple weeks ago and signed up for 5 motos and they took $10 off, I didn't even have to ask. That's pretty cool (IMG: style_emoticons/default/good3.gif) I do this because I love BMX and if I was broke we'd take some weeks off as needed, or sit my fat butt down and just let the kids race, but for now I'm have no real issues with the fees (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

QUOTE (Jason F. @ Mar 19 2012, 03:30 PM) Yeah because football basketball baseball soccer would ALL be thriviing if they had to actually pay for their land and buildings too, all sports are subsidized some how, either sponsors or tax payers. Give me a break, bmx takes a TINY parcel of land with nearly NO buildings or structures....theres NO reason for it to cost as much as other sports.
Road biking, MASSIVE ammounts of people working stations and blocking off roads with police and safetly officials. MTB, huge plots of land, again with massive amounts of people working all along the track.
Bmx 1 acre 5-6 officials who are parents of participants usually and a snack shack-some mobile and sign up booth and slab of concrete or steel with a ram and a gate.... road and mountin bike races do not use the land they are on week after week. race today, back to normal tomorow.
