I love teh Internets.
Not sure where that one came from, but preparations are already under way. Not as far as actually deciding what classes will be in the judging or any granular details like that, but I have already tentatively booked two of the three guests, and am working with a couple different venues for the banquet, to see which one offers the best package, both for sleeping rooms for the members, and for the banquet, itself.
So, rest easy on that, my friends. Info will start flowing around the first of the year.
Best,
M

Rockford has become a significant bmx event, and the part with the awards is an evolution from its starting point until now. The first event put on by Jason Leikam, Kevin O, Greg Hanna, Pliska, Tim L and a few others was just that....a bro down. As people continued to show up it began to change. Doubtful those same 10 guys who started this would still be getting together so it is the change that has kept this thing going. There were more people at the banquet last year than I could count, there we so many VERY cool bikes, we have guys like Stu and Greg and Oz coming to be part of the "event", and it has made the old school relevant with the new schoolers. This is one of the few places where our heritage can mingle with our present and do just fine. Rockford is awesome and I am proud to be part of the annual gathering. It has become a true bmx event, not unlike a racer going to a national. And as far as complaints, well, some people complain as though there was some great reward for being the best complainer. What I saw were hundreds of people who love the same thing. At these events, there might be 300 attendees with another 1,000 or so who mingle by and look at stuff. There might actually be 10 or 12 people who care about the awards for some reason. We should all complain about the complainers! (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I also believe that the Vintage event has made the new school Rockford racing piece better as well. There are so many people who made their way back onto the track because they attended Rockford. All of those who have participated in any way should be proud of having built something successful that works. As far as "not being able to compete" with those who have money, well, I saw plenty of bikes that were awesome that weren't that high dollar.
