I haven't raced a bunch of tracks, but I wasn't too fond of South Kitsap BMX. I only raced there a few times, but remember it being really tight and really low berms. Loose dirt too, but that could have been because it was new.

That track also didn't have running water. It had to be trucked in if they wanted to water the track.

That makes sense. SeaTac was so, so smooth and River Valley was fun too and we could ride both whenever. I loved when it would rain and the River valley would get all mucked up! I guess the folks at South kitsap did the best they could with what they had. Seemed to me like the track didn't stay around very long, but I pretty much quit racing in '90.

First Scottsdale Jaycee's track. Too narrow and too short. If you didn't get the hole shot you pretty much screwed.

No!!!! That was the first track I ever raced on...so it's a sentimental favorite.

The worst track I ever raced on was a USBA National in Vegas in '86. It was awful.

I remember a track in Linton, IN from the early 80s. It was an old wooden manual gate. On my first practice start I flipped at the bottom of the starting hill from the loose sandy dirt. I think my second attempt on the track I remember the jumps looking like the last five laps of a motorcycle supercross final. On one straight you could pass someone. I finally just laughed through the motos, took my second, and went home.

....the pre-race ritual was as we walked the track we kicked away the big rocks...

Rubber band starts, walking the track to pick up rocks, watch out for the mud hole, ruts, gravel, dust, one side of start is soft the other is hard, etc, etc, that was racing back in 79, 80 that was life in the early days, wouldnt trade it for any other sport, my buddies that played basketball, football, soccer, etc have no idea what we have.

And I agree with Contender on 9/3, I loved my Agressor, slept with it at night, here is me 9 using it at Wilton CT 1981:

Racer nailed it. Spokane Wa. in the early nineties, track was built out of parking lot gravel and rocks by two bmx moms with a bobcat in one weekend. 6 man gate, maybe 10 ft wide and 600 ft long.
Worst track ever! hands down.

when BMX Moms are building your track.. your in big trouble lol

Marcelles BMX Track in upstate NY. My friend Dave James and I went there to race a NBL State race in 1985 ish. Crummy gate that sent you down a short steep hill into a FLAT 90 degree turn. The track was made of cinder ash and was horrible! I can't even remember the rest of the layout cuz when we hit the finish line we went right back to the parking lot, threw our bikes in the back of the van and boogied. A cinder ash goat path........that's what the layout was........hahahaha.

Back then I would have raced on ANYTHING. So since we left........WORST track ever!!!

(Sorry to offend anyone if it was their home track.)

HORRIBLE!!!!

Some seemed unfair for that one person who drew the wrong gate lane. (watch out for that mattress on the tree in the first turn)

This describes lane 1 in Grass Valley California. At the aba national held there in 1980 they used all 8 gate positions. At local races lane 1 and lane 8 were not used, so 6 people max could make the main. This was a very smooth slightly downhill track with lots of shade. It was a great place to spend a summer day racing. The following video is titled 12x full gate, which it was for a grass valley local race. If you look closely 6 riders are lined up in lane 2 thru 7 with lane 1 and 8 unused to avoid run ins with the famous mattress covered tree. The enviromentalist would not allow that tree to be cut down. So they tied a mattress on it instead.

mxmug,

That video is crazy. I have that gate in my backyard. Bought it a year after they closed.

Worst track jr and I have ever been to is Titusville PA
It is an open track that is not well taken care of, and when we showed up, there were 50cc motorcycles all over it.

What year did they close? Why did they close?
