Interesting views for sure and one that stood out is reformatting the race day schedule. I posted something about this in another thread and it makes sense.

National racing is like an all day track meet and it's no fun for the non-racer fan to wait every 90 minutes or so to see their rider's moto. This definitely needs to change in order to showcase anyone let alone the pros. For example, my mom and brother went to Reno to watch me race by spending all day long waiting to catch a 45 second moto. That didn't keep their attention for too long while keeping them totally confused. Solution: TIME BLOCKS

Got the interviews in writing anywhere to read?

Unfortunately, no. I have been thinking of hiring some part time help to transcribe all my Podcast shows. Could happen in the coming months.

I guess the pro's will be running 3 motos in the finals at the Grands.

In the podcast, Sam was talking about expanding the "3 moto finals" to a Friday or Saturday night ABA/USABMX pro spectacular series for ten weekends a year.

Do you think he meant 3 moto finals in the SX series too?

cement tracks were big on people's minds back then...we address "tracks" in part II, but in today's context).

Other than that, the questions asked in the story were much the same as in 1982

Excellent post! I remember that article and always enjoyed reading about the pros back then.

Greg Hill had an interesting comment about the tracks during that time stating that they were way too easy and required zero skill. Someone else, maybe Kevin or Brent, said more jumps...way more jumps were needed.

These guys had some great incite to the sport on many different levels. Business, future, representation, and it's important to remember how young they were at the time, teens and early twenties! They defined and portrayed what "Pro" meant.

Thanks again for sharing.

Just posted both parts on BMXNEWS.COM. Some people had difficulty with the player on BMXA, so until I get that worked out, you can listen on BMXNEWS.

LISTEN TO PART II NOW

The segment turned out great...anxious to hear your comments.

Best,

M
