Just entertaining the possibility that the local track I volunteer at will someday have enough funds to treat our newly redone track. Our track produces a good amount of dust and the frequent island breezes will kick it up and blow it around, so we need to water it frequently. Would love to reduce the dust and reduce water usage at the same time.


Soo some questions...

How much product is needed to treat the average sized outdoor track?

How is it applied to a track that is already in place?

What kind of regular maintenance is needed?

Did the treatment greatly reduce the need of track maintenance(screening, raking, patching, watering, etc..)?

Is the treated (rolled)surface slippery after a light rain?

Is only the track surface treated or all areas of soil?

And the big question, how much did/will it cost to treat an average sized outdoor track?

An average track will use between 8&12 barrels. Cost, depends on whos product you use. Ranging from 450-600 per barrel. It only penetrates about 1/2" thru the surface. After a rain, water can be swept iff, or blown off and you will be ready to race. It is applied with a gas powered spray rig. Looking at between 4-8k depending in what you use.

The least expensive alternative is the elmers glue / vinegar / water solution.
We did our first straight (approx 100') as a test and it worked well.

Have you had any issues with the glue softening due to rain/water on the track. I was under the impression that water would break down the Elmer's glue.

The vinegar should keep it from softening.

Holy Crap! Who uses that much in a season? We ran the whole year on one 275 gallon tote of Dirt Glue and had 125 gallons left over at the end of the year. We probably should have used the whole tote as it was really breaking down towards the end of our season.

The Dirt Glue was about $2400 shipped. Soiltac is about $2800 shipped for the same size 275 gallon tote.

Here in MN, once the frost hits the glue starts to pop up and it all has to be raked off and redone the next season. Other tracks in my area dont use any more than I do.

Also take into consideration, different tracks have different dirt compositions and take coatings at different absorbtion rates. Some dont take them well at all, some take very little.

Soil-Tac can do a dirt analysis and tell you what formulation you need to work on your tracks dirt. Better than just buying sealer and hoping it doesnt peel off...

What was the ratio for that mixture? What did you use to apply and was the soil loose or packed?

One barrel equals 55 gallons.

275/55=5.

One 275 gallon tote is the same as 5 barrels.
