Finally an update for those that care. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif
I went in for a second opinion to a surgeon that specializes in Athletic Medicine www.instituteforathleticmedicine.com
After a disasterous first meeting with a surgeon that didn't even look at my xrays and thought he could diagonis me by how far my bone stuck out of my shoulder. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif
) My gut told me to get a second opinion.
Come to find out I actually haved a type 4 seperation of the AC which will need surgical attention. He will be doing a procedure called a "Tightrope" which means I won't have to be opened up twice like conventional shoulder surgery. Instead titanium screws will be inserted and I will make a full recovery with screws for life to strengthen the damage that was done. My shoulder will be stronger than ever as they put it back in place and fasten the screws.
The good news for me is I will race again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
) The ABA Grands are very realistic and I'm excited that we have worked out a progressive plan to put me back in the game.
Now if I can just stay on my bike and keep from crashing.
The surgery takes place next Friday as outpatient. I get a nice scar that will be an inch long as doing the procedure with a scope is risky because of nerve damage.
I'm nervous as hell but excited to put this chapter behind me. It's been a long 1-1/2 weeks since the crash!
See everyone in November at the "Greatest Race on Earth"
