I was tempted..... 1974 Redline Squareback

So... with many folks claiming that the economy is harming the vintage market, I thought I could grab this for $500 - $750

Cracked me up when it closed at nearly $2,150.00 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

That is the earliest Squareback Redline I have ever seen (small gusset model). O-G Redline test rider Danny Garcher and I were chatting on the phone right after the auction ended and we were both surprised it went past $2k

I love the Schwinn diamond cranks, 26" sprocket and the 2 speed kickback Bendix hub on it!

I think it's great too Ken. Bodes well for all us collectors who feel the value of such things... Maybe a foreshadowing of the future?

The earliest of the Redline stuff is so HUGE and iconic when you think about the history of BMX. A tricked-out MX Swing Arm leads into a seminal part of the permanent BMX frame design.

Ken,

I think that hub is just a plain old redband Bendix. The kickbacks were usually 3 bands and the 20" were usually blue (overdriven) and red or yellow. (again 3 bands, both underdriven)

Still a very cool grab for anyone.

Yep, Single Speed Bendix Coaster "Red Band" Nicest coaster brake hub ever used in BMX in my opinion
