Although it occurs: You want big time BMX, this is the cost of big time BMX. These fees are justified by the revenues generated.

Yeah, I don't like it either. BMX to me is something not big-time and international, it's something me and my sloppy friends do when we're looking to have some laughs. At the same time, if this is going to get big enough where people are making a decent living pursuing it, and public mind share is in the auto mode, it's not going to happen without changing the/our vision of the thing.

This is offensive to most of us, but then most of us have already made the investment and received the product we invested toward. But then none of this is in place to suit us. Now -- it could be argued -- it's time to create a larger investment:reward metric.

I swear that if I won the lottery (a big lottery) that I would put on a big race and call it the "Intergalactic Championships"; then the UCI couldn't do anything about it. I bet I could do it for less than the UCI's hosting fee, too.

Fees

I ain't saying it's right, I'm saying it's the ways of the world. Same as the examples cited about: Places want to host events so they can get people spending money, so they pay a fee, and people come and spend money.

Come to think of it it's no different here than a track paying it's money to apply for a Redline Cup Qualifier. You don't have to pay, you don't even have to be a sanction member, but if you want the head count that goes with such an event you have to play by the rules which include the pay up.

This is that on a grander scale. And from there it's a question of accurate pricing, low enough so people are willing to play along, high enough to maximize revenue. You go too high, people look for other ways to get bang for their buck; you go too low it's not worth it to you to mess with. Such are the ways of the world.

Does UCI itself even know what its own rules are? Their own trackbuilders have not been givin a shiit about rules for the last 4-5 years..
