Thanks for reading.

I have a '91 F/F and currently have Pitbul I brakes on it.

Now these frames were designed for these center pulls as they have cable guide hole in the seat mast.

The issue is the angle the cable enters is not perpendicular (90 degrees) w/ the hole itself.

Hence the top of the cable rubs on the hole keeping the caliper from returning once depressed.

At first I placed a zip tye around the cable to the BB which pulled the cable down keeping it from rubbing.

After not liking the braking I decided to remove the zip tye to get better braking but it mechanically will not work.

I could go back to the side pull brakes ... or if anyone has run into this issue before and has a fix to maintain the Pit Bul I's please offer me your input.

Rob

how badly is it rubbing?

if not much, you could try putting a piece of teflon cable liner on the wire where it passes thru the frame (or a piece of cable housing if it fits into the hole in the seattube).

this may or may not help since part of the problem might also be that the pitbull's cam is not being pulled straight causing it to bind.

That's exactly what is happening.

Not only does the cable rub ...

Because the cable is not pulling straight the pit bul's cam is binding as well.

Apparently it's a flaw in the design department at SE.

I never really rode this bike much until I needed to.

For now I am using a side pull caliper on the upper brake bridge and not the lower one.

Slow and steady won the race .... apparently I'm not the mechanic I thought I was.

I could use the Pit Bul caliper on the upper brake bridge as well ....

Thanks !
