Ryan, does the updated driver retro fit into the older Answers? The boys had his @ 5 years now, still work great but every now and then the 3 pawl driver slips for a split second. Whats the new driver cost? Thanks

Yeah, a newer version driver will fit into your old hub. You'll need a new silver lock washer that holds the driver on (the new ones are a touch shorter) but other than that, everything is the same. MSRP on new new drivers is $49.95 so you'd have new bearings and everything making hub virtually new again. If the bearings and everything feel good though, you may just need some fresh pawls and springs. After 5 years I'm sure they've worn down some and that would be the reason for the occasional slipping. The worn pawls just are catching into the ratchet ring like they did when they are new.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks
Birk

Is this the issue you guys have been seeing? A crack down the length of the hole? I love these wheels but don't know if they are strong enough. I'm only 150 lbs and these are a no weight limit wheel. How can I fix this?

BTW, that is an Answer driver and this is my first set of Answer wheels. I've always ridden Profiles with Sun rims with no issues. I'd really like to keep riding these so any help is appreciated.

I cracked one driver within the first six months of owning the Answer expert wheels and have not had any issues since I replaced it, two years now. One thing I can think of to help prevent this is to clean the driver on a regular basis and do not use grease. Just coat it with oil. I think the paws can and will get hung up with grease putting them in an odd loaded spot which may cause the driver to crack. Just a thought and I have no proof this is the cause or cure. My wheels were new and the driver was clean when it broke but I have been maintaining the wheels like I mentioned with no more failures. It could be the new driver itself that is better, material or something?

I also make sure the spring is working good on the paws. It may need a little adjustment to get more spring pressure on the paws to help them return or spring out better.

Answer ALL the way!! No question in my opinion that they offer a far better product than Crupi, and the customer service from Ryan is unmatched in the industry!!

I am not stepping into the A vs B debate, but, as a "programming note," keep an ear out in the next hour or so for a BMX News Announcers Tower Podcast with Ryan, as he talks about the progress Answer has made since John Sawyer took the helm. Also talks about new products coming down the pike, and sponsorship opportunities for the right riders and teams.

Good stuff!

I regularly pull the driver and inspect, clean, and oil it so I dont know. How do you go about getting a new one? I cant seem to find any and cannot get a hold of Answer.
